Shri. K. M. Asadullah

Shri. K. M. Assadullah was appointed as the Librarian of the Imperial Library, Calcutta in 1930, where he served until the partition of India in 1947. Under his leadership, the library underwent significant developments. One of his most notable achievements was establishing a subcommittee to align the library with the Government of India’s plan to make it a copyright depository. Assadullah played a crucial role in the formation of the Indian Library Association (ILA) in 1933, becoming its first secretary and serving until 1947. His efforts were instrumental in launching the first Library Training Course in India in 1935 at the Imperial Library, Calcutta. He also contributed to the formation of the Delhi Library Association (DLA) and initiated the publication of the Library Bulletin in 1942. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, he was honored with the title of Khan Bahadur by the British in 1935, making him one of the few librarians to receive such an honor.
